Family Engagement in Education/Intended Outcome:

Parents will participate in a variety of hands-on workshops, seminars, and ongoing support that offer families the tools to advocate for their children and know their rights as well as the know-how, responsibility, and opportunity to partner with schools, community, and civic leaders.

Fall Cohort 2023 Family Learning Course Overview

Motivation in Education

This course is designed to equip families with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support their children’s success and to be effective advocates on behalf of their children. The curriculum consists of topics that range from early childhood development to school readiness, good health, social and emotional well-being, economic well-being, parenting styles, and leadership and advocacy.

Raising Awareness to Healthy Eating

This course is designed to raise awareness, educate, and empower our Southeast Asian (SEA) community along with the greater community of Fresno about healthy eating and controlling portion eating. Motivating and actively encouraging families to take time to bond together and participate in small activities daily is important.

Cultural Learning and Celebration

The objective is for families to learn about different cultures in all forms such as analyzing and understanding the social context in which culture manifests itself. Families will learn some background history of the development of the focused countries, what is popular within the culture as well as learn about the traditional clothing, music, and important holidays.

Embracing Diversity and Food Experience

These lessons will teach about the culture element of food to help families get familiarized with unfamiliar tools. Families will have the opportunity to learn the origin of population traditional foods as well as get the opportunity to taste various dishes.
